Scripture as Witness... - Brian Zahnd
“The Bible is not a member of the Trinity…”
“Biblicism is a rival faith to Christianity. Oh, believe me, I have a high view of Scripture…but Jesus is Lord! It is Christ who rules the nations…not the Bible."
~Brian Zahnd
When you think of the Word of God do you imagine the Bible or Jesus? Surprisingly, this question has not perplexed enough Christians.
The faith tradition that I grew up in had such a high view of scripture that often it seemed like any Biblical reference to the work and ministry of *the Holy Spirit* could be been replaced with *the Bible*.
For example:
But when *the Bible* comes, *it* will guide you into all the truth. John 16:13
“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the *the Bible* will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:25-26
So much is lost when we substitute the Bible for any member of the Trinity. God is a mystery who has revealed himself most fully in the man, Jesus. After his resurrection, Jesus sent his Spirit into the world to guide us into all truth and to produce resurrection power and new life in humans.
The Bible is amazing. It is the Spirit driven record of God and his people throughout the ages. It is the collected testimony of God’s people to the movement of God and his Spirit among them. It points powerfully, persistently, mysteriously to Jesus, the Christ (savior, messiah).
The Bible is inspired and God breathed.
but Jesus is the living WORD of GOD:
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
-Hebrews 1:1-3
