We understand everything we experience or perceive from within a storyline our mind has constructed over the course of our life so far.
Our story defines everything that enters it:

Good or evil,

Villian or hero.

Truth or lie.

Because each of us is living in a different story we often interpret the meaning of words, actions, and events differently. The different stories we live within can create violent and deadly effects when they crash into each other.

And this crash is exactly why we are so divided as a culture at every level right now. We have a world of overlapping stories (and a stockpile of weapons that can wipe our our entire species) that we are seeking to resolve through political + military force when empathy + curiosity would serve us better.

I develop these ideas more here
